China trying hard to win back critics
In recent weeks, china has begun its strongest effort in global PR since the outbreak of the SARS disease. Government Officials and Diplomats are conducting various news conferences as well as trade and information shows on product and food safety. This is to show the world that chinese goods are high in quality and safety standards.
China recently implemented a new product safety recall mechanism that would allow food and toy recalls and the government termed it a special war on poor-quality products and unlicensed manufacturers. Government also tried to showcase its effort in inspection of manufacturing and farm locations as well as grocery and restaurant chains. to eliminate the substandard goods.
China's vice premier announced at a news conference that "this was a special war to protect the safety and interests of the general public as well as a war to safeguard the made in china label". After the conference we found that the government was trying to offer the journalists a guided tour of the toy manufacturing and testing lab in guangadong province where most of the chinese toys are produced.
Efforts of chinese government to create a clean image are to be applauded, but it may take a concerned effort to really get the entire world conviced of the same.
